Heart Strings

Dear Friend,

I had a customer the other day make a purchase of a mantilla. In the note section, she asked me to send the mantilla to her work address, noting that "[she] was the only (Christian) believer at home." She lives in a country where Christians are a definite minority.

This message struck my heart and it pained me. It sounds so much like the Christians of the early church who had to hide their faith for fear of death. For death was no stranger to them in those days.

Unfortunately, it seems to be the case again, that Christians must hide their faith for fear of retaliation or death.

Our Lady, Holy Mother of Our Lord, knows suffering. Kindly offer this prayer up so that she will appeal to Our Lord, who never refuses her, and ask her to help our brother Christians in need of safety.

Most Holy Virgin Mary, Help of Christian,
how sweet it is to come to your feet
imploring your perpetual help.
If earthly mothers cease not to remember their children,
how can you, the most loving of all mothers forget me?
Grant then to me, I implore you,
your perpetual help in all my necessities,
in every sorrow, and especially in all my temptations.
I ask for your unceasing help for all who are now suffering.
Help the weak, cure the sick, convert sinners.
Grant through your intercessions many vocations to the religious life.
Obtain for us, O Mary, Help of Christians,
that having invoked you on earth we may love and eternally thank you in heaven.

A Dark Day for Quebec

Dear Friends,

It is absolutely ironic that Quebec, the first seat of Catholicism in North America, has been the first province in Canada to pass an end of life euthanasia bill into law.

Veronique Hivon, drafter of the bill, should be absolutely ashamed of herself. I am quite certain that her ancestors, whom I assume were among the original French Catholic settlers, are rolling over in their graves as I type.

In fact, I thought this lunacy was mainly reserved for the Dutch, who have instituted euthanasia buses that can roll up to one's home and bring one's life to an end, not terribly unlike bringing one's car in for an oil change. Whatever happened to, Thou shalt not kill?

You call this dying with dignity? Are you kidding me?

In God's plan for the world, He chooses when one should die, not man. Don't try to tell me that the elderly are sick and depressed and that this is reason enough for such a bill. Seriously, who are you kidding? This is a dark day in Canada. For shame Quebec, for shame.

God, help us and save us.

In peace,

Peter's Bride

What Comes Around Goes Around

Dear Friends,

One would have to be completely without senses to miss the growing anti-Catholic sentiment that is now openly engulfing western society. As mentioned in previous posts, Catholics are increasingly being harassed for their beliefs, particularly as it relates to the family. Do not be fooled. This is a planned assault on Jesus Christ himself.

Having spent the past few decades cultivating political correctness, society has now turned on itself. No longer can one represent a particular kind of view or uphold  particular kind of faith values. Whether Canada, the United States, the  United Kingdom or Australia, the intolerance for Catholic faith values and those who maintain them is growing. The greatest defense against this travesty is this:

Stop aborting the unborn. Stand for the unborn. Pray for the unborn. Pray to Our Lady. Pray.

Lack of respect for human life and family values are having a detrimental effect on families and family life. To restore values is to begin with prayer.

If this sounds outlandish, think again. The following video demonstrates just how far out of hand things have gone.

Separating the Wheat from the Chaff

I applaud Bishop Riesbeck and Archbishop Prendergast, both of the archdiocese of Ottawa, for taking a strong stance against the dichotomy that Mr. Trudeau has elected to take as a Catholic who promotes abortion. It is not that I have anything against Mr. Trudeau personally. I am a political atheist and do not hold fast to one party with blinding allegiance.
Politics aside, it is high time that ALL Catholic clergy stand for the church and its teachings and stop playing political favorites with the politicians of the day. Catholicism is adamantly against abortion and has stood its ground when every other Christian denomination has crumbled and given in. This has left the church wildly unpopular among the liberal minded. However, it is a stance that must not now nor ever be compromised. Catholicism stands for life amongst a culture of death.

I hope that if Mr. Trudeau attends mass that the holy spirit will work upon him and will move his heart, particularly as he holds his newborn child.

In the meantime, however, I hope that the clergy will exercise  their responsibility to deny Mr. Trudeau the Eucharist, the Body and Blood of Our Lord, Jesus Christ.

It is time to separate the wheat from the chaff. It is a threshing long overdue...

In peace,

Peter's Bride

Justin Time for a Hint

Dear Friends,

Nowadays, it seems that every politician or political wannabe is pro-abortion. They mistakenly believe that this will bring them more votes and somehow catapult them into the position of power they desire. If you want the recipe for success, be Justin time to read this:

All bishops and cardinals must raise their voices and hold accountable any Catholic man or woman who aspires to public office.

God bless,

In Defense of Our Lord

Last night we came dangerously close to having a renowned institution give a nod, if not out right approval, to a satanic worship service, known as a black "mass." The core of the mass involves the desecration of the blessed Eucharist, one stolen from a Catholic mass. Thank the Lord above that this mass was cancelled shortly before it was scheduled to happen.

If you wonder how it is possible to steal a Host, wonder no more. No thanks to the Novus Ordo Mass, Catholics receive communion in the hand rather than on the tongue, as was the practice for 1,960 plus years, until Vatican II came along. Until then, Catholics had received the Host in a kneeling position, before a priest in the Tridentine Rite, known more commonly today as the Latin Mass, the "Old mass," or the Traditional Latin Mass.

I personally have seen people walk ten to fifteen feet away from "Eucharist ministers" before putting the Host in their mouths. So, to abduct a sanctified Host for nefarious purposes is not that much of a stretch to achieve nowadays. The act of receiving the Host in the hand, is one of the most devastating changes to the Catholic Mass. This practice must be abandoned with a return to the reception of the Eucharist on the tongue given by a priest, not a lay minister... definitely not a lay minister.

This leads to another point. If we Catholics can rally for this cause, what other causes can we rally for? What about the Catholic Christian brothers and sisters who are being slaughtered where they are minorities, such as in Nigeria? What about our Churches and schools being closed? What about the misuse of funds by organizations that call themselves Catholic? The list goes on. There is much to be done and we must defend Our Lord with all of our hearts, souls and minds.

The Inverted Order of Things

In recent months, I have been so disgusted by the insanity around us, I have almost fallen silent. Just when it seems that things cannot become more upside down, some thing, event or person manages to prove me wrong. Our world can become even more upside down.

Turn on the television and one is inundated with death, destruction and lies. That's right, you heard me.... even the commercials are perverse and twisted. Isn't it interesting to note that these are the three hallmarks of the evil one?

                                          And lies.

Having heard of Harvard's intention to hold a black mass on Monday, May 12th, one might as well consider it a coming out party. Let us all be in no doubt as to where that so called "venerable institution" stands. Not that I was in any doubt anyway, since one  need only look to the degree that hangs on the wall of so many of those powers-that-be.

Be under no illusion, this affront to our Lord must be countered with prayers of the faithful against this evil.

Please, take a couple of minutes to review the video, sign the petition, and make prayers of reparation. If you can make a sacrifice, however small (i.e. abstain from dessert, avoid buttering a roll at supper...), would be of great benefit too.

Please sign an online petition against this intended"mass" here.

and to give to us the Bread of life everlasting: Grant
us the grace to mourn, with a heart full of sorrow, over the
injuries which Thou hast received in this adorable Mystery,
and over the many sacrileges which are committed by the impious,
by heretics and by bad Catholics.
Inflame us with an ardent zeal to repair all these insults to which,
in Thine infinite mercy, Thou hast preferred to expose Thyself
rather than deprive us of Thy Presence on our altars, Who with God

world without end. R. Amen.

Music to My Ears: A Reflection on Saint Hildegard's Contributions to the Church

There are those today who refer to the Catholic church as having been a negative influence on western culture. That it has been repressive and has oppressed women.

How can the church be regarded as being oppressive when such art, architecture and music has been created to honor the Divinity of Our Lord?

It is so ironic because the church built western culture, creating all of the beauty that people now seek out when they visit Europe, such as the architecture of the churches, the shrines, works of art by the masters, such as Michelangelo and Rembrandt to name a very few. Visitors seek to be lifted up in viewing these works. And, they are.

There are works of music that also transcend time, and speak to the divinity of Christ and his bride, the church, such as the music of Saint Hildegard of Bignen (d.1179). Her works praise God and the saints and is seen as "a symphony of angels praising God."*

In addition to her musical gifts, Saint Hildegard was also a writer, composer, philosopher, Christian mystic, visionary, Benedictine abbess, and was deeply learned. She wrote on such subjects as theology, philosophy, botany, medicine and cosmology.

Interestingly, Saint Hildegard's canonization is regarded as complicated, in that the details are not clearly understood.  Regardless, in 2012, Pope Benedict XVI, elevated her, and thus her contributions to the church, when he named Saint Hildegard a Doctor of the Church.

Saint Hildegard composed this music approximately 900 years ago, in a form known as plainchant. It is hauntingly beautiful and can only be described as divinely inspired.

Did the church really oppress women?

I do not think so. Just listen to the work of Saint Hildegard and ask yourself whether this was the work of an oppressed woman.

Why Tradition Matters to Me

I recently began receiving emails from a group of the local laity, who might better be referred to as Church Militant, who are trying to raise awareness of the vast errors present in the diocese to both the bishop as well as fellow parishioners.

As mentioned previously, the churches in my diocese have been ravaged by the same problems that have plagued many a parish throughout western culture.

The novus ordo mass is celebrated across the diocese and it represents but a shadow of the Holy Latin Mass. In fact, I am not even sure that the two masses can be uttered in the same sentence since so much has changed with the "new" mass.

I can tell you that many good people are hurting as a result of this change. I can also tell you that many, many more are completely ignorant of the history of the church and why the Roman Catholic church, in particular, stands as a last bastion against the modernist heresies that have done nothing but desecrate every other vestige of western culture.

Despite many pleas to the current bishop, no attempts have been made to return the Latin mass.  Luckily, though, the order called the Society of Saint Pius X, does make the Latin mass available through the extraordinary efforts of truly devoted priests.

Many parishes today are focused on being the church of nice, rather than the Holy House of the Lord where we witness the transubstantiation, where bread and wine transform into the body and blood of Christ. This is the heart of the mass. This is why we worship, to be in unity with Christ.

The following video interview offers some important explanations for why the Latin mass matters.

Peace of Christ,

Reflections on Evangelii Gaudium: Encountering Christ

Some time ago, I began to read Pope Francis' encyclical and as I go back and look at what I have highlighted or made note of, I am struck by the simplicity of this incredibly powerful and true statement,

Source: Evangelii Gaudium, Page 8, Section 7

You see, growing up a "cradle Catholic", I have taken so much for granted. I have lived in the comfort of a household that had faith at its center. I didn't have to think about what it means to have faith or belong to the faith or anything like this. I even lived in communities that were predominantly Catholic. So, it was a comfortable place for me to be in.

In my mantilla work, I have the wonderful gift of encountering women, young and not so young, who have decided to enter the Catholic church. In essence, they have had an encounter with Christ, with the faith, and they are in love. Literally, in love. They want to follow him. They want to walk in his direction, follow his path.

When I interact with these women through email conversations, I am often given the sense that church is not crumbling as some would proclaim. No. Holy Mother Church is quietly, but surely, rebuilding her flock and it is a beautiful thing.

I invite you to visit one such blog, one filled with hope, love, and honesty, in All Roads Lead to Home.

Science and Religion: Never the Two Shall Meet?

Dear Friends,

Many have probably heard about the group of global warming scientists whose ship was stuck in ice, fifteen feet deep, in Antarctica. Multiple attempts were made to rescue them, the most recent being a Chinese ship, which also has become stuck in the ice. God bless these scientists for their patience and reported good spirits. Perhaps there are believers among them.

One cannot but notice the irony. And, perhaps, God is making known His sense of humor.

When the most recent calamity happened in what has become a comedy of mistrials, I turned to my husband Peter, and said, I don't believe they know anything. I don't believe in their science.

You see, I spent several years as a doctoral candidate and during this time, I came to understand a bit about research, academia and philosophy. And, I can tell you that nothing is as objective as it appears or is presented.

Very little good research goes on because everything is manipulated at some point. Numbers can be manipulated through a variety of approaches to the statistical data. The very philosophical approach one holds is often the product of the philosophies one is first exposed to in graduate school, and this is further reinforced by the grant monies awarded to the researcher. Why bother giving a grant to scientists who do not further propel the political agenda?

As discussed in previous posts, in regards to truth and political correctness, more and more science is for sale. With this the reality, all science must be suspect. And I mean all science, most especially that which pertains to one's health and well-being.

This morning I came across the newest installment of the Vortex, by Michael Voris. I invite you to watch and ask yourself, Science and religion; never the two shall meet?

 God bless.

As always,
Peter's Bride

PS Hours after I wrote the above article, I came across this vlog entry and couldn't believe how much it echoed my sentiments. It seems I am not the only one who questions science lately...

Thoughts on a New Year

Dear Friends,

Happy New Year! May God bless you and keep you all year long!

Set any goals for the new year?

I have.

I thought I would list them here so that I might feel inclined to be more accountable because I have shared them out here in blogosphere.

My goals are to...
  • Return to a healthier weight through exercising more self-control
  • Write more (i.e. blog more!) and express my thoughts, feelings and beliefs without fear
  • Achieve master gardener status (I have been working towards this for a couple of years)
  • Create through the arts (needle, culinary, fine)
  • Become involved in my community through volunteerism
  • Love more through patience, kindness and humility

All the best,

Peter's Bride
